Denver Broncos wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton made a costly mistake during the loss against the Oakland Raiders. Regardless, quarterback Joe Flacco has since been among those that rallied around him after the 2019 NFL season opener.

Hamilton dropped an easy pass that would have resulted in a touchdown during the third quarter. According to Jon Heath of Broncos Wire, Flacco does not blame the loss on his drop in the end zone.

“Listen, DaeSean is a really good wide receiver, and he’s going to have an awesome year,” Flacco said. “He’s going to be a really great, reliant receiver in this league. I know how he feels about it, but we’re a team and those things happen. That’s not why we lost the game.

Flacco added that he will continue to look for Hamilton whenever he can.

“I have all the faith in DaeSean to do the right thing and catch the football, so I’m going to be on his side to help him bounce back and get ready for a greater week.”

Hamilton has undoubtedly been his own biggest critic regarding the dropped pass. A catch would have made it a one-score game and the outcome could have been changed drastically. Of course, Flacco has been around long enough to know it takes more than one mistake to lose a game.

Despite the disappointing loss, it is encouraging to see Joe Flacco seamlessly handle his role as the leader on offense. It is part of the reason the Broncos felt so comfortable bringing him in under center this offseason. The veteran will need to find a way to help Hamilton and his team bounce back in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears.
