The Denver Broncos desperately need a winning season in 2019. After Peyton Manning's retirement, the once proud franchise has gone downhill in a hurry, and they've now missed the playoffs three straight seasons. They fired Vance Joseph after last year, and are looking to start fresh with Vic Fangio.

If they want to turn things around, they'll need all hands on deck, and that means they'll need a big year from Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders was operating as the team's clear number one receiver before he tore his Achilles in practice last December. As he looks to battle his way back, we got a positive update from general manager John Elway at his pre-draft press conference Tuesday, per Jon Heath of the Broncos Wire.

“I feel good about where he is,” Elway declared. Achilles tears can be tricky, and Elway acknowledged that as well. “Emmanuel says he feels good. You never know. We’re hoping. If there is anybody that can come back, it’s going to be him,” Elway said.

Elway clearly feels strongly about his work ethic, which is a good sign. We heard a few days ago that Sanders was looking to make a full return by training camp. For now, he's been doing some light stretching at the team's voluntary offseason program, but not much else.

Before going down, he had a way better season than he had in 2017. In 12 games last year, he caught 71 passes for 868 yards and four touchdowns. He showed immediate chemistry with Case Keenum, and with Keenum now gone he'll now have to start over with Joe Flacco or whatever rookie the Broncos have under center in 2019.
