The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the NFL, and not just in the player ranks. Denver Broncos president John Elway and chief executive officer Joe Ellis recently tested positive for the coronavirus and will both be away from the team facility due to the league's protocols until they are cleared to return, according to the team.

The Broncos released this statement on the matter:

Elway was not feeling well Monday morning when he reported for COVID-19 testing. He immediately informed team trainer Steve Antonopulos, who advised Elway to return home for the day. Ellis felt the same way Elway did on Sunday morning, called Antonopulos, and was instructed to stay home as well. The good news is that both men appear to be doing well and only have minor symptoms.

All employees working from the team’s UCHealth Training Center headquarters have been taking rapid testing on a daily basis since early August. Multiple Broncos members previously tested positive, including three assistant coaches in Curtis Modkins, Mike Munchak, and Ed Donatell, along with starting right guard Graham Glasgow.

Modkins was able to recover and return to team practices last week. Munchak, Donatell, and Glasgow remain self-isolated at home.

The team is also dealing with a flurry of injuries to their players on top of the positive coronavirus cases. The Broncos currently hold a 3-4 record and will face the Atlanta Falcons next on Nov. 8 for Week 9 proceedings. Denver is coming off a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
