John Elway confirmed that Gary Kubiak would be back with the Denver Broncos in 2019 but it's unclear what kind of role it will be in. There was a report in November that the Broncos thought Kubiak would consider returning as an offensive coordinator and there already some potential coaches that had him on his short list to join their staffs if that job was needed.

Kubiak has been working in the Broncos personnel department and although it's unclear what role he will return in, Elway did make some hints that maybe it could be as a coach with the team.

“We’ll see. We’re still in that process,” Elway said via the Broncos team website. “We still have a lot of things to go over before that, but I think it could be where it is, it could be on the offensive side [as a coach]. We’ll see what that role may be, but Gary will be around.”

It doesn't sound like the head coach is in play but he could become the offensive coordinator for the new staff. After the 2016 season, Kubiak retired citing health reasons and it being the best decision for him and his family.

“As I told our team last night, this is an extremely difficult decision to step down as head coach. I love to work and I love football, but ultimately the demands of the job are no longer a good fit for me,” Kubiak said in a statement Monday morning via NFL.com. “I gave everything I had to this team the last two seasons, but this year, in particular, has been tough on me. As hard as it is to leave this position, I know that it's the best thing for myself, my family and the Denver Broncos.”
