There's a quarterback quandary in the Denver Broncos' camp that team general manager John Elway would like to get resolved the soonest possible. Speaking to Josh Dubow of The Associated Press, Elway addressed the current quarterback competition between Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian.

“We'd like the decision made by itself,” Broncos GM John Elway said Thursday. “We want one of them to take the reins and take over. That would be the ideal situation. We'll get through this game and see what happens.”

Lynch was expected to inherit the starting job vacated by Peyton Manning when he was selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Broncos. That wasn't the script that Denver followed, however, as job eventually fell into the lap of Siemian, who started 14 games in 2016 and amassed 3,401 passing yards and 18 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

Both Lynch and Siemian didn't do enough in the Broncos' preseason opener against the Chicago Bears last week to create enough separation in this quarterback battle. Lynch went 6 of 9 for 42 yards, while Siemian had 51 yards on 6 of 7 passing during the Broncos' 24-17 win at Soldier Field.

In any case, the Broncos will have to strengthen their offensive line that gave up 40 sacks in 2016. Otherwise, their passing offense will likely get doomed yet again regardless of who between Lynch and Siemian will start under center come Week 1 of the new season.
