Kevin Hogan will be starting for the Denver Broncos in the AFC-NFC Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, against the Atlanta Falcons.

While it's certainly an honor to play at the NFL Hall of Fame, the game marks the beginning of preseason football, in which starters don't automatically get many reps.

Originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs after four years at Stanford, Kevin Hogan has been a nomad ever since.

After being drafted and then waived, he has been with the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and Denver Broncos. The Broncos are his fourth team in as many seasons. Hogan will have a chance to earn a solidified spot on an NFL roster, playing in the Hall of Fame stadium in the illustrious city of Canton.

He'll be backed up by rookie Drew Lock, who was drafted by the Broncos in the second round and threw for over 12,000 yards at the University of Missouri. NBC's Mike Florio suggests that starting quarterback Joe Flacco, who was acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in February, will not play. Undrafted rookie Brett Rypien is on the depth chart after Lock.

The unofficial depth chart may indicate that Hogan, second behind Flacco, has been playing well during this summer's practices, and even better than his rookie counterparts. This could be an opportunity for Hogan to demonstrate his abilities and solidify himself as the backup while the rookies learn from him and Flacco.

Notching only one career start in his three previous seasons, Hogan has a lot at stake on Thursday against the Falcons: If Hogan plays well, this could lead to an eventual start in the regular season if the aging Flacco goes down. This is each of the Bronco quarterbacks' first full season with the team. Hogan is the second of four so far on the depth chart.
