Marquette King’s agent said the Denver Broncos were high on his list of destinations. Apparently, they’re at the very top. After meeting with the Broncos on Thursday, the free-agent punter is expected to sign a three-year deal with Denver, per 9News’ Mike Klis.

The Broncos have subsequently announced that they’ve agreed to terms with King.

King was recently released by the Broncos’ AFC West rival Oakland Raiders after five seasons with the team reportedly due to Jon Gruden’s dislike of his personality. King has been known to be one of the more demonstrative punters in recent memory and has been called for some unsportsmanlike foul penalties in the past couple of years.

However, King has also been among the best punters in the league since coming into the league in 2012. His average of 46.8 yards per kick currently ranks fourth all-time. He also finished third last season with 42.7 net yards per punt.

King will take over for Riley Dixon, who had been the team’s punter for the last two seasons. After an impressive rookie year in 2016, Dixon’s performance dipped in his sophomore season. He finished all the way down in 22nd in terms of net yards per punt.

King has a lot of experience playing in Denver during his time with the Raiders. He has capitalized on the thin air of the Mile High City, averaging 50.0 yards per pun in his five games there.

And of course, by signing with the Broncos, King is set to meet Gruden and his former team twice next season and beyond. Given his fiery personality, expect those meetings to be interesting occasions.
