The Denver Broncos have made a number of significant moves already this NFL offseason. One of their major acquisitions this offseason was the signing of Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon.

This upcoming season, Gordon will be joining a backfield that already includes Pro Bowler Phillip Lindsay. In a recent article on NFL.com, former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew made a bold prediction about Gordon's role on the Broncos.

“Because Gordon will share the load, his production won’t exceed his numbers from 2017 . . . but count on him to be used plenty at the goal line,” Jones-Drew recently wrote on NFL.com. “I think Denver is a really good fit for him,” MJD wrote. “This three-headed backfield has become one of the best in the league overnight, and it will allow second-year signal-caller Drew Lock to thrive off play-action.”

This past season, Lindsay led the Broncos in carries (224), yards rushing (1,011). Pairing Gordon and Lindsay in the backfield will certainly decline their averages. However, the Broncos will certainly have a one-two punch with them.

In Gordon's five seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, he played tremendously well. The 26-year-old was able to rush for 1,000 yards in three of his five seasons with the Chargers. In total, Gordon has rushed for 4,240 yards and 47 touchdowns. Those 47 touchdowns are the third-most in the NFL since the start of the 2016 NFL season.

Needless to say, it'll be interesting to see a backfield that includes two of the most prolific rushers in the league. With Lindsay and Gordon in their backfield, the Broncos could most certainly snap their five-season playoff drought.
