Star running back Melvin Gordon signed with the Denver Broncos this offseason. And he wasted little time trying to endear himself the fans. Meanwhile, it appears he's not afraid to take some subtle shots at fans of his old team (Los Angeles Chargers) at the same time.

According to Jon Heath of Broncoswire.com, Gordon spoke about his new team during a conference call with reporters. One of the things he talked about was the fan base.

“You definitely have a way bigger fan base,” Gordon said during a conference call with reporters on March 27. “Since I’ve been a Charger, there was always — I always felt like it was an away game when we played the Broncos and pretty much any team. Definitely at Qualcomm, it was always a sea of orange. We just didn’t have that many fans.”

That's not very subtle. He tried to make it subtle. It was more Gordon getting excited about his new fan base and trying to get everyone behind him. However, he did so by throwing some shade at his old team.

Gordon is not exactly wrong with that though. That's something that the Chargers have faced criticism for quite a bit over the years. Since moving to Los Angeles it's been pretty obvious that the games have not been all that well attended.

And when they are attended at a high level, it seems like the crowd seems to be made up more of the away team fans than for the Chargers.

So Gordon's criticism definitely isn't baseless. However, it's still a shot at his old team. Don't be surprised if he's booed pretty heavily when he returns to Los Angeles for a game.
