The Denver Broncos managed to switch things up under center once again with the addition of quarterback Joe Flacco this offseason. It seems NFL legend Peyton Manning has high expectations for him going into the 2019 NFL season.

Flacco will get a new opportunity as the starter after being replaced in his final year with the Baltimore Ravens. According to Troy Renck of Denver7, Manning feels he is as motivated as he has ever been.

“It’s a fresh start. He handled it well last year. He was a pro and tried to do the best for the team. Having a chance to go to a new place and be a starter, he will probably be hungrier than he’s been in awhile.”

It is safe to say that Manning is speaking from a place of experience. It was not too long ago where he was in a similar situation as Flacco. He had spent his illustrious career with the Indianapolis Colts until he was sidelined by a severe neck injury and replaced by a promising quarterback prospect in Andrew Luck before ending his career on a high note in Denver. Flacco is hoping he can follow in his footsteps and emulate the same type of success.

The writing was on the wall for him when Baltimore traded up to take quarterback Lamar Jackson in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The hip injury he suffered ultimately made way for the Ravens to replace him with Jackson for the rest of the year. The veteran now finds himself in a similar situation with the Broncos after they invested a second-round pick in quarterback Drew Lock.

Flacco will need all the motivation he can get if he hopes to remain the starter in Denver for the foreseeable future.
