Hall-of-Fame quarterback and former Broncos' superstar Peyton Manning announced that he will be providing a college scholarship in honor of the late Demaryius Thomas. Thomas passed away at just age 33 last year. He was a Broncos' star wide receiver for a number of years and played alongside Peyton Manning during his time in Denver. Now Manning is using his platform to honor him with a scholarship in Thomas's name.

The program will be implemented at Georgia Tech, Thomas's alma mater. He was an All-American at Georgia Tech and his memory lives on at the school. The scholarship will provide support for freshman who are from Thomas's hometown, Laurens County, Georgia.

Peyton Manning commented on his decision to honor his late teammate and friend.

“Demaryius Thomas was an incredibly talented and unselfish teammate, but more importantly, he was a special person and friend. My family and I miss him dearly, and we wanted to honor D.T.’s memory by partnering the PeyBack Foundation with Georgia Tech to establish the Demaryius A. Thomas Scholarship Endowment.”

It would have been easy for Manning to have just made a statement about his friend and move on. But he wanted to honor him through action as well. This scholarship fund displays the character of Peyton Manning and is a reminder of what kind of legacy Thomas left.

As part of the program, a player will wear Thomas's college No. 8 on the date August 8th (8/8) which is in reference to the No. 88 he wore for the Broncos. This is truly a remarkable gesture by Peyton Manning and Georgia Tech.
