The Denver Broncos suffered a disappointing 27-14 defeat on the road to the Oakland Raiders, which marked their third straight loss.

Things have been compounded as standout rookie running back Phillip Lindsay suffered a hand injury has put him out of action in the contest prematurely. However, it appears to be much worse than that as his season is over as he had reportedly suffered a possible scaphoid fracture as well as ligament damage, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

Lindsay had suffered that injury after his hand made contact with the helmet of a Raiders player while he was carrying the ball. This had immediately led to him having to exit the game prematurely and did not return. Since then, he has undergone additional tests on his hands that have given this diagnosis of what appears to be a season-ending injury.

Although this marks the end of his season, it shouldn't diminish what has been an impressive rookie campaign. He became the third undrafted rookie in the Super Bowl era to rush for 1,000-plus yards, effectively joining LeGarrette Blount in 2010 and Dominic Rhodes in 2001. He also became the first undrafted rookie offensive player to be named to the Pro Bowl.

His production has tailed off in the last couple of weeks, but he has been a huge spark plug in the backfield for the Broncos this season stabilizing their running game. In his absence, Denver will likely lean on fellow Royce Freeman to lead the charge in the running game.
