Early Saturday morning, the Hall of Fame committee voted on the modern-era finalists. The finalists consisted of a few other talented safeties like LeRoy Butler, John Lynch, and Troy Polamalu.

Atwater began his career with the Broncos after being taken with the 20th overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft. Of his 11 years in the NFL, he spent 10 of them in Denver.

Throughout his career, Atwater was known as one of the hardest hitting safeties to ever play in the NFL. As for his individual numbers, the tough-nosed safety totaled 1,188 tackles, 24 interceptions, and six forced fumbles in his career.

Additionally, Atwater made the Pro Bowl eight times and was named an All-Pro twice. But the most important aspect of his career was being a part of Denver's two Super Bowl wins in the 1990s.

Surprisingly enough, this was Atwater's 16th year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame. It was only a matter of time before the legendary safety saw his name etched in Canton forever.

The other inductees include Isaac Bruce, Steve Hutchinson, Edgerrin James, and Polamalu. With the NFL Honors ceremony being held on Saturday night, the inductees will be officially announced. After waiting almost two decades, Atwater has finally been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
