Some NFL players agonize over choosing their new homes in free agency. Former Chicago Bears defensive back Bryce Callahan, though, certainly wasn't one of them. Once the Denver Broncos came calling, the four-year pro's familiarity with the coaching staff and multiple players on the roster made his decision something close to easy.

“The Broncos were always my top pick because of [Vic] Fangio and [defensive coordinator] Ed [Donatell],” Callahan said, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. “I felt comfortable in this system. I’ve been playing with them for a couple of years. I feel like I won’t have to be learning a whole new system. I can just get in and go. That’s kind of why I chose here. Denver is a nice place. I had some friends play for the Broncos and they had nothing but good things to say. It wasn’t really a hard decision.”

Callahan spent each of his four NFL seasons to date learning under Callahan, the Bears' defensive coordination from 2015 to 2018. He was hired to replace Vance Joseph as the Broncos' head coach on January 10th, shortly after which it was announced Ed Donatell, his defensive backs coach in Chicago, would join him as defensive coordinator in Denver.

Callahan, 27, signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Broncos on Friday. He enjoyed the finest season of his career in 2018, finishing with 45 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, five quarterback hits, two interceptions, and six passes defensed.

Denver, 6-10 last season, also added longtime Houston Texans defensive back Kareem Jackson to the secondary earlier this week.
