Vic Fangio's head-coaching tenure with the Denver Broncos did not get off to a shining start on Monday night, as the Broncos fell to the Oakland Raiders by a score of 24-16 in their season opener.

While Fangio obviously was not happy about the loss, he took a positive approach after the game.

“That I was extremely disappointed in the loss, but not discouraged,” Fangio said, according to Mike Klis of 9 News. “I think once we see some of the mistakes we made, or plays we didn’t make, that we can see that we can be better than we played tonight.”

It was an ugly first half for Denver in the Bay, as the Broncos found themselves falling behind 14-0 before the half was over. Denver looked a bit better in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 16-10, but it wasn't enough.

Joe Flacco was decent in his Broncos debut, completing 21 of his 31 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown, but Denver did a terrible job in the red zone, as it was not able to score a touchdown on any of its first three trips, one of which included a dropped pass by DaeSean Hamilton.

The Broncos were also not able to generate any pressure on Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, as they did not log a single sack as a team while Carr completed 22 of his 26 throws for 259 yards and a score.

Denver, which is looking to end a streak of back-to-back losing seasons, will head home to play host to the Chicago Bears next Sunday.
