Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio recently downplayed any urgency to get quarterback Drew Lock on the field in the 2019 NFL season. It appears he has since reversed his position following another abysmal outing on offense in Week 12.

Lock is finally eligible to return off injured reserve this week. Fangio seems to now be keeping an open mind about his status against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk:

“All options are on the table,” Fangio said Monday. “We could activate [Lock this week]. We’re just going to make that decision here in the next few days.”

It is safe to say that Fangio's sudden change-of-heart may have something to do with the historically-bad outing in the 20-3 loss against the Buffalo Bills. Quarterback Brandon Allen completed just 10-of-25 passes for 82 yards and an interception while the offense mustered up a mere 134 yards of total offense. It is clear that this group is now in desperate need of a spark heading into the final stretch of the 2019 campaign.

The Broncos are not playing for much at this point in the season with a 3-8 record. As a result, this could be a good time to get Lock some experience on the field.

They have taken a rather cautious approach since taking him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft after spending the entire year on IR with a thumb injury.

It will be interesting to see if this is the week the rookie makes his career debut.
