Vic Fangio is one of the many recent coaching hires around the NFL. Where more teams went with youth, the Denver Broncos went with experience in the form of a 60-year-old first-time head coach.

Over his career, Fangio has been patiently waiting for a head coaching job, and he finally has one. Now, he wants to win. He is not looking for more sputtering 6-10 seasons like the Broncos had in 2018.

Per Woody Paige of The Gazette, Fangio wants to build, but not rebuild:

“I'm not looking to go 4-12 or 5-11, thinking that we're rebuilding. But we must realize that two years from now, three years, that what we did in the 2019 season was why we are at that point.”

Step one to building an NFL franchise is finding a quarterback. With the 10th overall draft pick and an arguably weak quarterback class that may not be an easy task.

Luckily, a veteran free agent may do the trick. Either way, there are inherent risks that Fangio understands.

“Do we go for a high draft choice and find out he's not what we'd hope he'd be, or throw a ton of money for somebody (a veteran), and he turns not to be worth it? We have to be smart.”

The Broncos know better than anyone that talent can come from anywhere. Their best rookie in 2018 was undrafted running back Phillip Lindsey.

For Fangio, it seems that he wants to take the time to be sure whatever decision they make is the right one.

Right now, Fangio has the choice of Case Keenum or Kevin Hogan on the roster. The former was signed prior to the 2018 season after leading the Minnesota Vikings to an unexpected season in 2017.

Although it seems Fangio might have other ideas in mind for the future of the Broncos.
