Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio gave an update on running back Melvin Gordon ahead of Week 6. Gordon is battling an illness that has been confirmed as not being COVID-19 and will be further evaluated before the final decision in his availability (per ESPN's Adam Schefter).

The Tuesday night referenced in Fangio's statement refers to Gordon being charged with a DUI on Tuesday night after leaving a dinner with some friends and proceeding to drive home after having a few drinks. Following his citation, Gordon shortly afterwards called Broncos general manager John Elway to apologize and take full responsibility for his actions.

Gordon was also reported to have been speeding, going 75 mph in a 35 mph zone late Tuesday night. After failing to pass a sobriety test, Gordon was then arrested.

Gordon recently turned in his best rushing performance of the 2020-21 season against the New York Jets, rushing for 107 yards off 23 carries that resulted in two touchdowns. In defeating the Jets, the Broncos were awarded their first win of the season.

The 27-year old halfback may get more time to return to action following his illness if the Broncos rescheduled game against the New England Patriots finds itself postponed once more. After the Patriots canceled practice on Friday due to one of their players reportedly testing positive for COVID-19, the Broncos could find themselves with another bye week at the expense of the Patriots.

If the Patriots are able to continue as scheduled, quarterback Drew Lock has been made available for action according to Fangio.
