There is a newfound sense of optimism surrounding the Denver Broncos going into the 2018 NFL season. Even linebacker Von Miller is notably giddy about the upgrades they made this offseason.

Of course, their most notable additions came in the form of quarterback Case Keenum and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. According to Chad Jensen of 247Sports, Miller is confident the mix of veteran leadership and young talent will help the Broncos bounce back this season:

“You’ve got guys like Case Keenum, guys like [OLB] Bradley Chubb—we’ve just got leaders all across the board,” Miller said. “It’s a totally different team. Like I said, I had great teammates last year. We just didn’t get it done. We’ve got some great guys in here now and some big-time players. I’m looking forward to a great season as well.”

It is always encouraging to see a team's star player optimistic about their chances, especially after a disastrous 2017 campaign. More importantly, there is good reason for him to be optimistic. Despite Denver's struggles last season, they still boasted one of the most formidable defensive units in the league. The addition of Chubb now gives them another potential elite pass-rusher to play opposite Miller. The rookie was widely considered the most talented defensive player in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The majority of the Broncos' struggles last season can be traced to their lackluster play under center. Their mediocre quarterback carousel largely prevented them from making any meaningful progress.

Fortunately, they brought in a legitimate starter in Keenum. The veteran is coming off the best year of his career after leading the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship. Regardless, the Broncos will look to Miller to dictate the tempo of their team.
