Von Miller should consider himself fortunate. So should the Denver Broncos.

It has been a tumultuous last few seasons for the Broncos. Once consistently one of the league's top franchises, the team has gone downhill ever since Peyton Manning retired. They've missed the playoffs three years in a row, and just fired head coach Vance Joseph after two unsuccessful seasons.

There's been a lot of drama on and off the field for the Broncos, including a war between members of owner Pat Bowlen's family for control of the team. That's why the last thing the Broncos needed right now was a controversy surrounding star pass-rusher Von Miller. Fortunately for Denver, Miller won't be prosecuted for illegally catching a hammerhead shark in an incident that took place a year ago, per Josh Peter of USA Today.

Peter reports that the owner and operator of the boat that Miller was photographed with the shark on was “charged with fishing for sharks without the proper permit and for failure to release a shark in the manner that will ensure maximum probability of survival,” but Miller got off.

Von Miller is an avid fisherman, and a mini-controversy erupted when he posted a photo of himself with the 9.5 foot shark. The fishing of hammerhead sharks is apparently illegal in Florida, where the incident took place, but Miller was apparently unaware.

“I went fishing,” he said. “Everybody knows that I hunt and fish. It's what I do. But I also believe in conservation. I'm not just out there going crazy,” Miller said at the time last year.

The story will now fade away, and fortunately for the Broncos, it's one less headache to deal with.
