The future of Denver Broncos running back CJ Anderson has been the subject of much speculation this offseason. The Broncos were reportedly ready to move on from him, while the Miami Dolphins reportedly had an interest in acquiring him. It made sense for the two teams to talk about a possible trade.

Apparently, they actually did hash out a trade which would’ve sent Anderson to Miami in exchange for right tackle Ja’Wuan James. But for some reason, the Dolphins decided to pull the plug on the deal, per Troy Renck of Denver7.

According to multiple NFL sources, the Broncos had a verbal agreement in place to send Anderson to Miami for right tackle Ja'Wuan James before Miami surprisingly nixed the deal.

Renck did not provide more details as to exactly why the Dolphins backed out on the trade. Perhaps they just didn’t feel like letting go of an above-average tackle like James in exchange for a decent but unspectacular running back like Anderson. Perhaps it also had something to do with the Dolphins signing veteran Frank Gore in free agency.

While Anderson is still a Bronco for now, he remains vulnerable since he’s due $4.5 million with no dead money on the cap if he gets cut or traded. There’s a chance the Broncos find another trade for him in order to get a younger running back in the draft. Denver still needs more help on their offensive line, and will likely look for other possible options after just missing out on James.
