The Denver Broncos have been busy this offseason re-tooling their roster in an effort to bounce back from a disastrous 2017 NFL season. Unfortunately, it has led to the departure of a few fan favorites in the process such as cornerback Aqib Talib.

Denver now finds themselves in position to acquire another quality talent with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, according to Albert Breer of the MMQB, general manager John Elway may be considering trading down to select Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward:

The Broncos are also smitten with two other ideas: trading down, or replacing Aqib Talib with Ohio State star cornerback Denzel Ward.

There has long been speculation that the Broncos may consider taking another quarterback in this year's draft. Although they managed to signed a competent quarterback in Case Keenum, it is clear that Elway is looking to ahead to the future under center as well.

However, Denver is not quite in a position to pick the signal-caller of their choice given all the quarterback-hungry teams ahead of them. That said, it seems they may be looking to trade back and acquire as many assets as they can in the process.

It goes without saying that the departure of Talib has left quite a void in the Broncos secondary. However, it is clear that Elway was looking to take a much cheaper, youthful approach to shoring up their depth on the defensive side of the ball. Ward certainly makes for an intriguing option as a member of the first-team All-Big Ten and consensus All-American in his last season with the Buckeyes.
