Isaiah Crowell‘s relationship with the police has taken a drastic turn over the last few months, for the better.

Back in July, shortly after the tragic murders of five Dallas policemen, the Cleveland Browns running back posted a graphic photo of an officer being brutally attacked on his social media accounts, before quickly taking them down.

It wasn't taken well, of course, by law enforcement in both Dallas and Cleveland. Now, Crowell is at least taking steps to make up for it.

Major donation

Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports that Crowell donated his first game check to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation. However, he had to do some convincing before it was accepted.

After the social media incident, Crowell developed a relationship with the foundation's president, Sergeant Demetrick Pennie, who simply wanted to educate Isaiah on police sacrifice. After talking over the phone, he finally accepted the donation.

From Cabot:

“I said, ‘Isaiah, why did you send me a check? I told you you didn't have to send me a check,'” Pennie said. “He said, ‘Sarge, I want to do it. I really want to do it.' I said, ‘okay, alright, you will now be an executive level sponsor. So now, you are a celebrity sponsor of the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation.'”

This isn't the only way in which Crowell has attempted to atone for the distasteful post on social media:

In July, Crowell accepted Pennie's invitation to attend the Dallas funeral of one of the five slain police officers, Patrick Zamarripa. He spent the day with Pennie being educated on police service. The two have become close.

“Isaiah is like my little brother,” said Pennie. “He's a long-term sponsor, not necessarily in terms of money, but he's going to be involved with my foundation, and how I engage him with my widows, and my fallen officer families. That's where this is going.”
