Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is reportedly dealing with a lingering sports hernia injury, for which he will receive surgery for in the offseason. His quarterback, Baker Mayfield, doesn't think the injury was handled correctly.

After beating the Cincinnati Bengals 27-19, Mayfield shared his thoughts on Beckham's injury. He said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com:

“Yeah, I’d say that wasn’t handled right. He’s not able to run as well as he should be able to, as well as he knows, and that’s frustrating for him. You can sense that’s some of his frustration where that comes from. Wasn’t handled the right way in our training room. So it is what it is. His ‘not 100 percent’ is still good enough for us.'’

Mayfield said Beckham is playing through the injury. If he had it worked on before the season, he likely would have missed some football.

“Yeah, I think looking back on it, obviously hindsight’s 20/20, but he probably would’ve missed first two, one or two,” said Mayfield. “Just based on the fact it was during training camp. It is what it is, we’re here right now, it’s too late to do that. He’s fighting through pain, he’s playing through pain, so that shows you what type of guy he is.”

Mayfield received heat for his comments, as many presumed he was throwing the medical staff under the bus. That was not his intention, as he apologized on Twitter.

In the Browns' game against the Bengals, Beckham tallied two receptions for 39 yards. On the season, he has 59 receptions for 844 yards and two touchdowns.
