In the weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, there hadn't been much of an indication that former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield would be the overall pick. However, he had been in the discussion with some of the other top-projected players at the position.

Despite that, Mayfield did recently reveal that he felt like himself and former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen would be the first two players off the board at the position in this year's draft, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I had a good feeling it was between Josh Allen and I,” Mayfield said. “I’m not really sure why. I had a dream about it and it was all just sort of coming into focus. I didn’t try to stress about it too much because it would have just driven me crazy, having anxiety about where I could have ended up.”

Like Mayfield, Allen was heavily ingrained in the conversation as being a possible choice for the top overall pick in the days ahead of the draft. He saw himself fall down the board to the seventh overall pick after the Buffalo Bills traded up to snag him at that spot.

In fact, USC's Sam Darnold was the second quarterback off the board at the third overall spot to the New York Jets. UCLA's Josh Rosen went 10th overall to Arizona Cardinals after they moved up to get him.

Each of these quarterbacks has a unique opportunity in front of them to potentially step as the starting quarterback this season if things shake out in their favor. They have all shown promise to potential be the franchise cornerstones for their respective organizations. It may just be a matter of when they will get that chance to showcase that they fill those lofty expectations in front of them.

Mayfield's dream may not have to fruition, but there could be a promising future ahead of him in Cleveland to be the quarterback that the franchise has long been searching to land.
