Baker Mayfield had what was probably the worst performance of his NFL career during the Cleveland Browns' embarrassing loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. He also got banged up.

After the game, Mayfield had his right shoulder wrapped with ice and also had a sleeve on his left leg, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Considering Mayfield was sacked four times and was under duress most of the night, that isn't too surprising.

The second-year quarterback completed just eight of his 22 passes for 100 yards and a couple of interceptions in what ended up being a 31-3 loss.

Following a brilliant rookie campaign in which Mayfield set the single-season rookie record with 27 touchdown passes, expectations were understandably high for Mayfield going into 2019.

However, the 24-year-old has fallen well short of those expectations thus far.

Through five games, Mayfield has thrown for 1,247 yards, four touchdowns and eight picks while completing just 55.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 68.5.

The Browns' 2-3 start is not all Mayfield's fault, as the offensive line clearly has issues, the defense has been wildly inconsistent and Freddie Kitchens has looked in over his head early on, but given that he is the quarterback, Mayfield will have to shoulder a significant share of the blame.

Cleveland appeared to be turning things around last week with a 40-25 road victory over the Baltimore Ravens, but it responded by turning in its worst outing of the season at Levi's Stadium on Monday evening.

The Browns will head back home to host the Seattle Seahawks next week.
