Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has recently come under fire due to an interview with GQ in which he criticized the New York Giants for taking fellow signal-caller Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April.

But Mayfield has already reached out to Jones to clear the air, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.com.

He also said that GQ took his quotes on Jones, in which he seemed to question Jones' ability to win in the NFL, completely out of context.

“It seemed very disrespectful, and I can understand that,” Mayfield said. “But what people didn't realize, the conversation entailed of me saying I was surprised I was drafted No. 1 overall, and then me going on a rant after that about QB evaluation and the frustration from the college recruiting process. And so it had nothing to do with Daniel specifically about the winning and stuff.”

Mayfield added that Jones was very cordial in his response, saying “no worries man” via text message.

Of course, Mayfield is far from the only person to have lambasted the Giants for taking Jones so highly in the draft, as New York heard the backlash from fans and media pundits everywhere after selecting Jones, who played his collegiate football at Duke, over Dwayne Haskins.

Some even said that the Giants could have simply taken a defensive player at No. 6 and then snagged Jones at No. 17, but obviously, we will never know for sure if that was possible.

All of that being said, Jones has certainly looked good thus far in preseason.
