Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has been cleared to return for Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and will start despite recently suffering a torn left labrum and shoulder fracture, the team announced Friday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapaport has more details on this major update:

The Browns quarterback missed Week 7 against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football because of his shoulder problems. Case Keenum got the start in that game, a 17-14 Browns win.

Mayfield was actually hoping to play in that contest against the Broncos after aggravating the shoulder in an ugly Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Browns quarterback had noticeably been laboring for a few weeks, though, and the decision was made to give him the week off.

Now, Mayfield is back and hoping to secure a big win in the AFC North over the rival Steelers. Cleveland is 4-3 on the season in an ultra-competitive division. The Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens are both 5-2, while the Steelers are 3-3. With all of these teams so close in the standings, these games in the division take on that much more meaning.

We'll see how effective Mayfield is as he returns from this injury. He has thrown for 1,474 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in six games this season. He has also rushed for another score and has a quarterback rating of 97.8.
