Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is trying to shield himself from all the noise and toxicity of the internet by leaving the virtual world of social media. On Tuesday, Mayfield made an intriguing post on his Instagram account, announcing that he's done with social media — for now.

Mayfield and the Browns are coming off a letdown season. Despite an upgraded defense and stacked offense to begin the 2021 NFL campaign, the Browns took a big step backward, finishing with just an 8-9 record after a season in which they made the playoffs with an 11-5 ledger. Mayfield got plenty of flak, especially online, with an up-and-down performance. He concluded his fourth season in the prose with 3,010 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, though, it should also be noted that he battled injuries over the course of the season.

With just a year left on his current contract, Mayfield does have a big reason why this offseason is extremely important for the Browns — and for his career. The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback will be a free agent by the end of the 2022 season, so rebounding from a disappointing 2021 will be the main focus for Mayfield, who's gotten criticisms from fans and even parents of his teammates.
