Retired quarterback Drew Brees probably knows a bit about playing through injuries in the NFL. The legend had an honest message for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, as the former number one pick has struggled to find success on the football field due to various injuries. Here's what Brees had to say on the Mayfield situation, per Scott Petrak of BrownsZone:

“Probably had a lot of the same injuries that he’s dealing with right now and they’re no fun. Do they affect you? Yes, they affect you. They affect your weekly preparation because you’ve got to spend so much time on your rehab, prehab. Just taking care of your body and just getting to Sunday. But at the end of the day, there’s a different way to win each week.”

Brees played for almost two decades in the NFL, from his days with the San Diego Chargers to his successful tenure with the New Orleans Saints. In the middle fifteen seasons of his career, the quarterback only missed four games, indicating the fact that he garnered the ability to play through pain. He was extremely successful as well, like winning a Super Bowl, being named to a myriad of Pro-Bowl appearances, or even completing 68% of his career passes, putting him second in NFL history.

Mayfield, on the other hand, has had an up and down time in the NFL. Last season, the Oklahoma product displayed potential to be the Browns' franchise quarterback, when he threw for 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. However, the Browns and Mayfield have both underachieved this season, with Cleveland compiling a record of 6-5. The Browns starter himself has struggled with a myriad of injuries, including his shoulder, foot, and groin. With the injuries came the lack of success on the field, as Mayfield and the team's offense has failed to put up strong numbers on the board.

Brees believes that Mayfield and the Browns can turn their season around and also change the narrative around their quarterback's name. Yet the Saints legend states that Baker Mayfield will need to find other ways to win games if he wants to play for a long time in the league.
