Since taking former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in this year's draft, the Cleveland Browns have continued to make it clear that Tyrod Taylor will be the starting quarterback to begin the 2018 campaign.

Mayfield has remained in the position of having to work his way up the depth chart in training camp heading into his first NFL season. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are still working the 23-year-old with the third team in practice.

At the second OTA open to the media on Wednesday, Mayfield was still third on the depth chart behind Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton, and received precious few reps in 11-on-11 drills.

Mayfield has been in the position from the get-go in the offseason workouts to have to work his way up to being considered at the very least the backup to Taylor that could lead to him taking the field at some point this upcoming season. There is still plenty of time for him to do just that prior to the start of the 2018 regular season where he can show that.

The Browns have major long-term plans ahead of Mayfield in hopes that can be the solution center that can lead to them to success. In the meantime, he will need to use the rest of the offseason and preseason to further get comfortable in the offensive game plan that could push him up the depth chart to the backup role.

Cleveland may be taking a more precautionary approach to the situation in hopes of bringing him along at a pace to where he can take the field when he is ready to take on the huge responsibility. It is quite early in the process that could see things change in the coming months.
