Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens insisted that the third week of the preseason does not hold any more significance than the others. Regardless, it appears he will play most of his starters against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, quarterback Baker Mayfield will be among the notable starters expected to play.

But Kitchens said Wednesday that he will play Baker Mayfield and many of the Browns starters Friday night in Tampa.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will continue to sit while recovering from a hip injury.

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who’s been held out of padded team drills since Aug. 6 with a hip injury, is not expected to play in Tampa, meaning he probably won’t take a snap in a preseason game.

Although Kitchens has indicated that his starters will rest for the preseason finale, he is adamant that this week is not considered to be a dress rehearsal. As a result, it is safe to assume that key players will not see too much of a significant increase in playing time.

There has been no shortage of headlines surrounding the Browns this offseason. Both Mayfield and Beckham became the topic of conversation once again recently after taking some shots at the New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones.

All the unnecessary noise is hardly ideal for Cleveland going into the 2019 NFL season. The onus will be on Kitchens to ensure that he is able to keep this team together as they hope to follow through on the hype they have generated this offseason.
