The Cleveland Browns took many by surprise when they decided to select former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, it appears Mayfield is not looking to rest on his laurels going into training camp.

The former Heisman Trophy winner has expressed his desire to come in an make an immediate impact in Cleveland. Mayfield may have to be patient after head coach Hue Jackson said during an appearance on Bull and Fox that him starting immediately is a bit far-fetched:

“It would have to be something that blows me away and blows the organization away … but I would like to really, really make sure that that's the case rather than creating the narrative that that's the case”

Jackson's comments should hardly come as any surprise given all that the Browns have done this offseason. Cleveland has enjoyed quite a turnaround on paper which began with the acquisition of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Despite his bitter departure from Buffalo, Taylor has easily established himself as a bonafide starting quarterback thus far in his career. Not only does his versatile skill set make him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, but he is also one of the best decision-makers at his position as well. That said, Taylor brings plenty of stability under center.

This will give Cleveland an adequate amount of time to develop Mayfield into their future franchise quarterback. Regardless, do not expect the rookie to let up on his desire to become the starter at some point in the 2018 NFL season.
