The Cleveland Browns had their choice when it came to this year's crop of quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft. They ultimately went with former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick.

Cleveland is, by all accounts, convinced that he was the best of the bunch. However, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo feels otherwise:

Still, McAdoo sounded a bit mystified Dorsey made Baker Mayfield the No. 1 pick in the entire draft. McAdoo had Mayfield as his sixth-rated quarterback (Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State was his No. 5).

It appears McAdoo is not convinced Mayfield's competitive edge will be enough to help him translate to the NFL.

“He’s got an edge to him; I like that,” McAdoo said. “He’s gonna lead; they’re gonna follow him. I didn’t see a lot of pro-style football in his college tape, and if you’re short you have to be able to make up for it some way, somehow, and personality doesn’t do that.”

McAdoo's stint ended rather unspectacularly after he was axed with four games left in the 2017 campaign. However, that has not stopped him from making waves with his recent comments on a number of topics. It appears Mayfield is just the latest victim of all the free time he now has on his hands.

Regardless, his comments are still interesting considering his history with Browns' general manager John Dorsey. The two spent several years together with the Green Bay Packers, however, it is clear that McAdoo is not a fan of his former colleagues' latest pick. Only time will tell whether or not Cleveland missed the mark. That will likely not prevent the free agent coach from making any more bold statements in the near future.
