The Cleveland Browns have yet to officially name their quarterback of choice to start Week 1 of the regular season. But with rookie DeShone Kizer named to start the third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brock Osweiler might very well prepare for life as a backup to the rookie quarterback.

If that’s going to be his immediate fate, though, Osweiler just wants everyone to know that he did his best in hopes of winning the starting role. Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Osweiler told a group of reporters during a press conference on Wednesday that he’s comfortable with the thought that he’s shown the Browns everything he could during practices and preseason games.

“I have no regrets on anything,” he said. “I truly believe I've laid everything out there on the table. I'm very proud of what I was able to show my teammates and the coaching staff throughout OTAs going back to day one when we were just given the playbook and how I mastered that. … I don't think there's anything else I need to do. They know the quarterback and the teammate that I am.”

Kizer has outplayed Osweiler in the two preseason games so far, even though the latter started both contests. Osweiler was last seen on the field during the Browns’ 10-6 win over the New York Giants last Monday in which he completed six of eight passes for 25 yards without a touchdown and an interception. Kizer, meanwhile, went 8-of-13 for 74 yards to go with 35 rushing yards on five carries.

Whether the Browns release, trade, or keep Osweiler, it seems that the team is far from securing a long-term answer at the quarterback position.
