The Cleveland Browns have begun contract negotiations with offensive lineman Greg Robinson, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

The Browns hope to have Robinson signed to a multi-year deal before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 13, and back in December, Robinson stated that he hopes to remain in Cleveland due to his appreciation of the confidence that general manager John Dorsey and quarterback Baker Mayfield have shown in him.

The Browns signed Robinson last June, and he ended up playing in all 16 games for Cleveland this past season, making eight starts at left tackle. He took over as the starting left tackle in Week 9 after previous starter Desmond Harrison fell ill.

Mayfield was then so impressed with Robinson that he lobbied to have him as his full-time left tackle, and from that point on, Robinson was the Browns' full-time starter.

“To only allow five sacks in the last eight games is incredible,’’ said former Browns offensive lineman and all-time great Joe Thomas. “A lot of that goes to the quarterback of course, but the offensive line just playing well together, because that’s what it’s really all about.’’

Thomas also has high hopes for Robinson moving forward.

“To be able to step in and play as well as he did is not an easy thing, especially at that position and especially for a guy that’s kind of bounced around the league a little bit and hadn’t found his role and his niche,” he said. “He did an amazing job and I can’t wait to see what he looks like next year with a full offseason of preparation.’’
