The Cleveland Browns have re-signed wide receiver Rashard Higgins to a one-year deal, according to Nate Ulrich of The Akron Beacon Journal.

Jake Trotter of ESPN.com notes that Higgins will earn $910,000 and actually turned down more money elsewhere because he wanted to return to the Browns.

Higgins saw only scarce playing time this past season, appearing in 10 games and logging just four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Colorado State, was originally selected by Cleveland in the fifth round (172nd pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He played in every game during his rookie campaign, totaling six grabs for 77 yards. The following year, Higgins' role grew, as he caught 27 passes for 312 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Higgins then had a breakout season of sorts in 2018, hauling in 39 receptions for 572 yards and four scores.

As a result of his solid 2018 campaign, Higgins was expected to be a rather significant part of the Browns' offense this past year, but he was never able to find his rhythm behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.

Higgins will compete for Cleveland's No. 3 receiver role in 2020.

Of course, Higgins was far from the only disappointing player on the Browns in 2019.

Cleveland entered 2019 with Super Bowl expectations thanks to a high-profile offseason, but instead, the Browns won just six games and missed the playoffs entirely. Cleveland's ineptitude this past season resulted in the firings of head coach Freddie Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey.

The Browns have not made the postseason since the 2002-03 campaign, representing the longest active playoff drought in the NFL.
