The Cleveland Browns are reportedly expected to sign veteran running back Carlos Hyde to a three-year deal worth more than $15 million.

We know of this because famed NFL reporter Ian Rapoport took to Twitter to tell us about it:

Don't let the overall number trick you. Outside of the first year Hyde will be carrying the rock in Cleveland, the rest of that money is unlikely to be around unless the veteran back forces the Browns to keep him around for all three years of the deal. Otherwise, this is just another one of those smoke and mirror NFL contracts.

Nevertheless, with the Browns doing damage this offseason by bettering their offensive skill positions, Hyde adds to the formula. He will take over as the Browns' bell-cow back with last year's leading rusher, Isaiah Crowell, moving on to the New York Jets.

Hyde, who was selected by the 49ers in the second-round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of the Ohio State University, was at one point expected back with San Francisco. Obviously, that's no longer the case, as he's moving closer to the East Coast with this move.

In 50 career games played for the 49ers in four seasons, Hyde rushed for 2,731 yards on 655 carries (4.2 yards per rush), 21 rushing touchdowns, 109 receptions for 634 yards (5.8 yards per catch), and three touchdown receptions.

It remains to be seen how Hyde's signing affects the Browns' decision whether to draft Saquon Barkley. Regardless, Hyde is a good player who should be able to contribute regardless of his role.
