The Cleveland Browns shifted plenty of attention in the 2022 NFL Draft to bolstering their depth on the defensive side of the ball. For one, they hauled in three defensive linemen over the past three days, including third-round pick Alex Wright out of UAB.

The Browns also acquired defensive end Chase Winovich from the New England Patriots last month, and overall, one could presume that this would all put an end to the possibility of Jadeveon Clowney re-signing with the team. However, this may not be the case after all.

During a press conference on Saturday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry was asked whether there is still a chance that the team could come to terms with the veteran pass rusher on a free agent deal. For the moment, a reunion between the two sides is not completely off the table.

“We will continue to keep our thumb on the pulse of all of the veteran markets,” Berry said. “We think highly of JD. Like I said, we will take our breath tomorrow, and we will be back at it with roster building next week.”

Clowney signed with the Browns in the last offseason on a one-year deal worth $8 million. He went on to record 9.0 sacks over the 2021 campaign, which was his highest since he also tallied for 9.0 sacks in the 2018 season with the Houston Texans. He also logged 19 quarterback hits in 14 games played.

Clowney has already made it clear that he would be open to re-signing with the Browns, so the ball may be on Cleveland's court with this matter.
