The Cleveland Browns entered 2019 with Super Bowl expectations, largely because many people expected a big jump out of Baker Mayfield after the quarterback had a great rookie campaign.

Instead, the Browns went just 6-10 as Mayfield labored through a sophomore slump.

Now, the former No. 1 overall pick is going into his pivotal third season, and Browns general manager Andrew Berry is anticipating big things from him in 2020:

“I can assure you there’s nobody who’s more focused and determined to put last year behind him and take a step forward than him,’’ Berry said of Mayfield on ESPN Radio’s Golic and Wingo show, via Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We’re excited about the environment that we’ve created around that position and around that room in general, and we really do expect him to have a fantastic year. I know Kevin [Stefanski] and the staff have done a really nice job with the virtual offseason so far, implementing the new system and we think that he’ll be able to thrive in it this season.”

Berry is in his first year as Cleveland's general manager after John Dorsey was fired. Stefanski is also entering his inaugural season as Browns head coach, replacing Freddie Kitchens. Kitchens was canned after just one season.

Mayfield is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he threw for 3,827 yards, 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 78.8.

That came after a brilliant first season in which Mayfield set the single-season rookie record with 27 touchdown passes.
