The Cleveland Browns hired Andrew Berry to be their new general manager this offseason. That's not the part that's making waves right now though.

What's interesting people around the league, is apparently the pay he's getting.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSsports.com, Berry is going to make around $3.3-million a year. That's getting people excited.

“Hearing that the Browns are paying new GM Andrew Berry about $3.3M a year, which has a lot of his peers around the league excited. That is pretty big money for a first-time general manager, and considering how Browns ownership generally is still paying former coaches and GMs at the same (like recently-fired GM John Dorsey), it's a commitment that has gotten people's attention.”

So this is the good kind of interest. People aren't upset with the Browns and they don't think Berry is undeserving.

What they do think is that this is a good amount of money for a first-time general manager. Maybe that means they are believing this will be the new norm. This will help to set the precedent for all future hires in this position.

As mentioned, Cleveland is still paying former coaches and GMs. So throwing this kind of money at someone has to mean they are confident.

That also has to be a reason people are talking. What kind of belief do the Browns have in Berry to give him this money. They must truly believe that he's the person that can truly turn the franchise around and get them back to some winning ways.

If it doesn't work out, they could find themselves into an even bigger hole. So Cleveland must have felt really strongly about those odds.
