In a pair of moves that came as a surprise to nobody, the Cleveland Browns exercised the fifth-year options on Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Mayfield's option is worth $18.86 million, while Ward is set to make $13.33 million in 2022.

This was an absolute no-brainer for the Browns. Everybody and their mother probably saw this from a mile away. This was pretty much standard procedure for the Browns, as they take the first step to eventually securing their two top picks from the 2018 draft with long-term deals ahead of 2022. Mayfield will make $10.6 million this upcoming campaign, while Ward will take home $9.45 million.

With the arrival of head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns had their best season since 1994. They finished with an 11-5 mark in the regular season, making the playoffs for the first time since 2002. They also won their first playoff game in 27 years when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card Round.

Mayfield continued his upward trend in 2020. He completed 305 passes and had a completion rate of 62.8 percent while throwing for 3,563 yards. He also had 26 touchdowns throughout the year.

Meanwhile, Ward is a mainstay on the defense and will be looking to return to the Pro Bowl after making it as a rookie.
