The Cleveland Browns have their head coach. They may not have their offensive coordinator. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, there is a possibility that the Browns don't have an offensive coordinator in 2020, as new head coach Kevin Stefanski could serve as the play-caller.

Stefanski has only one full season of NFL play-calling to his name, as he was the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator in 2019 after taking the role on an interim basis late in the 2018 season.

Working in both the head coach and offensive coordinator roles would not be unprecedented, as Sean McVay did the same thing in his first three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. However, for a coach with little play-calling experience and no head coaching history, it may raise some eyebrows.

While Stefanski could be the head coach and play-caller, the Browns are still searching for an offensive coordinator. Per Rapoport, they have shown interest in the San Francisco 49ers' passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur or run game coordinator Mike McDaniel. They will also interview Rich Scangarello, who was the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator in 2019.

Stefanski recently hired former Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea as his receivers coach and passing game coordinator. The Dolphins recently fired O'Shea after one season.

The Browns' coaching staff is far from complete. They are undergoing a pseudo-rebuild in their front office and coaches rooms, as Cleveland has opted to go from the “football guy” mentality from the previous regime to one that thinks more with analytics in-mind. Expect coaching hires to reflect that.
