The Cleveland Browns have been in quite the pickle this offseason after trading for Deshaun Watson. He still has several lawsuits filed against him and the NFL has been discussing his potential suspension length for quite some time. That decision should come to fruition soon and it sounds like Cleveland is eyeing Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup plan.

According to Doug Kyed, the Browns looked into the San Francisco 49ers quarterback earlier in the offseason. Additionally, the franchise isn't ruling out a possible trade right now. Everything depends on Watson's suspension length, San Francisco's asking price, and Jimmy Garoppolo's health.

The NFL should reveal the length of Deshaun Watson's suspension soon as training camp is kicking off. Additionally, the Browns will want to acquire Garoppolo at an affordable cost, as the front office has already dished out a ton of money and draft picks to acquire Watson and Amari Cooper. As for Jimmy Garoppolo's shoulder injury, reports claim he should be good to go come early-mid August.

If Cleveland can get a trade done, then it would be a brilliant move. The roster is stacked and primed for a playoff run, but the quarterback situation is incredibly rocky. Having Jimmy Garoppolo under center until Deshaun Watson returns would be a brilliant way to keep the Browns competitive throughout the 2022 season.

We'll see how it plays out, but this is something to keep an eye on. More clubs may express interest in Garoppolo in the coming weeks as his shoulder injury is coming close to full health. For the Browns, they must be patient for now and see exactly what the league will do to punish Watson. Once that information is released, then Cleveland will make their decision.
