The Cleveland Browns are unquestionably confident in Baker Mayfield at quarterback, but the team is adding a notable backup behind him. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cleveland is signing Case Keenum to a three-year, $18 million deal.

Some people may view the decision to sign Keenum as a sign that the Browns aren't confident in Mayfield moving forward. However, with Kevin Stefanski at the helm, he's bringing in a quarterback that he has experience in his offense to help Mayfield.

Over his eight seasons in the NFL, Keenum has been a journeyman quarterback. As a matter of fact, in just the past four years, he's been with four different teams. Now, with a three-year deal, Keenum is hoping to find a long-term home in Cleveland.

Last offseason, the Washington Redskins traded for Keenum to compete for the starting job with rookie Dwayne Haskins. After a strong training camp, the veteran was named the starting quarterback for the Redskins in Week 1.

In eight starts for Washington, the Cincinnati product threw for 1,707 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Despite his inconsistent production, Case Keenum provides the Browns a formidable backup and spot starter if Mayfield happens to get injured.

With that in mind, Keenum's best season of his career came in 2017 with the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran signal-caller finished the 2017 campaign with 3,547 yards, a career-high 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Of course, that season, Stefanski was Minnesota's quarterback coach. Contrary to belief, this signing is more of a comfort move, not a knock on Mayfield.
