The Cleveland Browns are signing safety Karl Joseph to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Joseph spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders and is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he was limited to nine games due to a season-ending foot injury.

During the time he was on the field this past year, Joseph logged 49 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and three passes defended.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at West Virginia, was originally selected by the Raiders in the first round (14th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 12 contests during his rookie season, registering 60 tackles, a pick, a fumble recovery and six passes defended. The following season, Joseph played in 15 games, finishing with 79 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four passes defended.

The theme of Joseph being unable to stay healthy continued in 2018, as he participated in 13 games and recorded 48 tackles, a couple of sacks and a pick.

While Joseph has been a disappointment thus far given his draft position, we also have not seen an incredibly large sample size from him due to his inability to consistently stay on the field.

The Orlando native has yet to play a full 16-game campaign in the NFL.

Regardless, the Browns are in desperate need of help on the defensive side of the ball, and with Joseph still being young and packing some potential, signing him to a one-year prove-it deal obviously could not hurt for Cleveland.
