It was reported earlier this week that the Cleveland Browns were holding a workout with veteran linebacker and former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith. It appears both sides have come to an agreement. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cleveland has inked a deal with Smith for the 2020 season.

In the early portion of Cleveland's training camp, Mack Wilson suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury. Wilson was expected to see an expanded role on defense following the departure of Joe Schobert in free agency.

As of this moment, the Browns have yet to come to a conclusion on what will be best for Wilson. If Wilson decides to undergo surgery on his knee, he'll likely miss the entire 2020 campaign.

On the other hand, if he and Cleveland choose to avoid surgery, he could possibly return at some point in the regular season. Nonetheless, the Browns are seemingly adding Smith to help the void left behind by Wilson in the middle of the defense.

For Smith, he concluded the 2019 season with the Dallas Cowboys as a depth option behind Jaylon Smith, Sean Lee, and Leighton Vander-Esch. In just two games with the Cowboys, Smith contributed five tackles and a forced fumble.

When someone hears Smith's name though, most remember him for his time with the Seattle Seahawks. From 2011-2014, Smith spent time as a spot starter for the Seahawks, flashing his athleticism at the linebacker position.

In his final season with Seattle, Smith was able to win Super Bowl MVP as the Seahawks trounced the Denver Broncos. While his role with the Browns remains to be seen, Smith could find himself starting at linebacker again sooner rather than later.
