Now that Josh Gordon is no longer the Cleveland Browns’ problem after the team traded him to the New England Patriots Monday, the Browns immediately made a move to find someone to fill the spot vacated by the wide receiver on the team’s 53-man roster. According to the Browns’ Twitter account, Cleveland has signed a new wideout in the form of Rod Streater to cover the loss of Gordon.

Rod Streater has been in the league since going unselected back in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2015. Streater was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016 but the team later shipped him to the San Francisco 49ers, where he played 16 games, including two starts. Before joining the Browns, Streater last hooked up with the Buffalo Bills, though, he wasn’t able to play a game for them in 2017. He was cut by Buffalo just before the 2018 NFL season kicked off.
It’s uncertain at this point how big of a role Streater will play for the Browns’ passing attack, but if he is to be a significant target for quarterback Tyrod Taylor, he will have to prove himself a viable option downfield among the likes of Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, Rashard Higgins, and David Njoku.
Rod Streater has 1,755 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches on 127 receptions so far in his NFL career.
