Jedrick Wills is set to be the starting left tackle for the Cleveland Browns in his rookie season in 2020.

Seeing that they haven’t had a preseason to guide him along, the Browns revealed their strategy to prepare Wills for the upcoming season:

“In terms of his [Garrett’s] one-on-ones getting matched up on Jedrick, we’re trying to give Jedrick as many different looks as possible, whether it’s a speed rusher, a power rusher or a combination-type player,” Browns offensive line coach Bill Callahan said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We’re just trying to get as many different people on him to give him that exposure of the speed, quickness and power that he’s going to face.”

During his time in college at Alabama, Wills served as the blindside protector for Tua Tagovailoa. But since Tagovailoa was left-handed, Wills mainly operated at right tackle.

However, after taking him with the No. 10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Browns are moving him to left tackle. While Jack Conklin is the team’s new right tackle, Wills is expected to be a formidable blindside blocker for Baker Mayfield.

With there being no preseason in 2020, Cleveland is throwing everything they can at Wills — figuratively and literally. Altogether, the Browns have had the rookie left tackle face Myles Garrett, Sheldon Richardson, and Olivier Vernon in one-on-one drills. All three of them have made Pro Bowls in their careers, with Garrett being one of the premier edge rushers in today’s NFL.

When the Browns take the field in Week 1 versus the Baltimore Ravens, they want to make sure Wills is as prepared as possible. Having him block Garrett, Richardson, and Vernon should give him ample practice to block the likes of Matthew Judon and Calais Campbell.
