Cleveland Browns personnel consultant Scot McCloughan recently joined the organization with hopes of redirecting the tide back in the fans' favor. If it was solely up to him, the rebuild would start with former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Both McCloughan and general manager John Dorsey have toyed with the prospect of picking Mayfield as the top quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, McCloughan even went so far as to compare him to Green Bay Packers legendary quarterback Brett Favre:

“He reminds me of a shorter version of Brett Favre,” McCloughan said.”Tough guy. He can throw it. And he's very confident, and he's not afraid whatsoever, whatsoever. He's a battler. I know saying Brett Favre's a big name, and I was around him for a while, but this guy has talent.”

Despite his stellar 2017 season, the former Heisman Trophy winner has largely flown under the radar behind other quarterbacks such as USC's Sam Darnold, Wyoming's Josh Allen, and UCLA's Josh Rosen. Mayfield has taken plenty of criticism for his questionable height and boisterous personality both on and off the field.

However, it seems his charisma is part of the reason Dorsey and McCloughan are so high on Mayfield at the moment. His competitive mindset could be just what Cleveland needs to help fuel their long-awaited turnaround. Fortunately, they have the assets to acquire any young quarterback they want, and then some, with the first and fourth overall picks in the draft. The Browns have made it clear that they will spare no expense when it comes to selecting their future franchise signal-caller.
